Kiruv Background:
Professional
About Me:
Aliza Bulow is the national coordinator for Ner LeElef’s North American Women’s Program, and the Senior Educator for The Jewish Experience in Denver, CO. She mentors women who work in Jewish Adult Education and Outreach, and provides consulting for Jewish Outreach organizations across the country. She also teaches Jewish philosophy and learning skills, as well as offering spiritual guidance, to Jewish Adults in Denver. In the early eighties, Aliza attended Michlelet Bruria and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and served in the Nachal division of the Israeli Defense Forces. In 1985, while completing her BA in Hebrew and Jewish Social Studies at Hunter College, she married and moved to Long Beach, NY where she and her husband, Ephraim, were active lay leaders with delightfully crowded Shabbos tables. In between babies, toddlers and tweenagers, Aliza continued learning and began teaching Torah to adults. Her professional career began in the late 90’s when she was hired by Partners in Torah as their “telephone mentor’s mentor”. In addition, Aliza became involved with AJOP in the mid-90s, and she actively developed and now chairs their Woman’s Conference. In 2001, the Bulows moved to Denver where Aliza served as the Program Director and teacher for The Jewish Experience, the kiruv branch of Denver’s Yeshiva Toras Chaim, for 5 years. Recently, she participated in a Taryag teacher’s training program with Rabbi Jonathon Rietti and she is currently engaged in learning and developing better ways to educate both children and adults. Married for over 20 years and a mother and mother-in-law of seven, aged 14-21, Aliza is committed to helping her family, her students and the women of Ner LeElef and beyond to absorb, embody and transmit the Torah.
What I do for parnassa:
national coordinator for Ner LeElef’s North American Women’s Program, Jewish Educator
City and State:
Denver, CO
Types of Kiruv I Enjoy:
I enjoy second level kiruv, working with those that are already curious and interested and have questions. I have a harder time trying to convince people that they should get interested. I also like to do follow up education and chizuk. I have quite a bit of experience with gerim and I enjoy doing inreach as well, working with "FFBs" who need a few answers and reasons to keep it going.
I am available to help others with:
what to teach at what stage and for which interest level, navigating relationship and family issues that arise in the kiruv journey, setting and understanding realistic goals and pace of achievement of kiruv process, programming and events for communities, organizations and synagogues, understanding the psychology and sociology of the many types of BTs
I could use advice about:
campus kiruv dynamics, inter-organizational politics
